Currently I am using a 1920x1080p monitor along with a gtx 660 ti, and I was recently thinking about upgrading to a gtx 970 or a gtx 980 for possibly wanting to upgrade to a 1440p monitor in the future. I am not sure if a single gtx 970 would be able to max games like the Witcher 3 (mostly maxed settings) and Batman Arkham Knight at the 1440p resolution, and that is why I was considering on possibly getting a gtx 980 instead. Would buying a single gtx 970 be enough, or should I spend the extra money and get a gtx 980 instead?

Solution
A reference GTX 970 will barely run Batman Arkham Knight at 1440p 60fps. For this reason I would recommend the 980 over the 970. The Witcher 3 will be much more demanding and a single 980 will not likely run max settings at that resolution and 60fps. Though since the game has not been released yet much of this is speculation. If your wallet can allow it I would opt for the GTX 980 over the 970 but don't expect to play the Witcher 3 at max settings on a 1440p monitor.

I am still thinking about if I should get a 1440p monitor or not. My 1080p is not that bad, but 1440p seemed like it would be a nice change down the line when I would get more money to spend on something like that. Also I was thinking Gigabyte windforce card brand for whatever one I decide at getting.
