GTX 970: $330

I will be gaming at 1080p. Some of the games I will play are Battlefield 4, Crysis 3, Minecraft, Metro, WoW, etc. The GTX 970 performs about 5 frames faster than the R9 290, and costs $40 less. Although I only have a 750W power supply, and I may want to Crossfire/SLI in the future. Which should I buy?

The 970 for the reasons you stated. Plus, it will almost certainly OC better and run much cooler. Hawaii is a hot chip.

A 750W PSU is more than enough for two 970's.

I see you linked to an EVGA 970. I recommend the MSI 970 Gaming or Gigabyte G1. EVGA went the cheap route on their 970's, rather than upgrading the PCB and components like everyone else.

the 290 has been out much longer as well , I would not be surprised if future drivers squeeze more performance out of the 970.

The 970 has been seen beating a 290x, plus it's newer, cooler, and draws less power.

Agree totally, but it's also made previous high end Nvidia gpus obsolete
