GTX 970 or R9 390?

I know you see posts like this all the time but i feel like im on a dead end. I was always an AMD user and i really want to support them.I had an HD 7770 and it was a really good card.Then i upgraded to R9 270 and i was really happy because the performance was amazing for its price but now i bought a R9 380 and i am a little dissapointed.Dont get me wrong its not a bad card but im used to get better value/money from AMD.
So now im planning to sell it and buy a new card but since i can get R9 390 and GTX 970 at the same price im not really sure whats the best choice here.Im playing at 1080p and i dont think im going to change that for the next 2-3 years unless the monitor prices drop alot in my country.
Should i change to Nvidia and get GTX 970 or stick to AMD and get the R9 390?

Im an Nvidia guy but realistically the 390 comes out on top as far as performance in most cases by a bit. As long as you have a good enough PSU then I'd take that route.

If you can get a Sapphire 390. They are the best.

If I were buying a GPU today, it would be the 8GB 290X. It'll outperform both the 390 and the 970. And with a mild overclock, will perform exactly the same as a 390X....for the price of a 390. Roughly.
