Does anyone have this set up? I'm caught in between getting a new GPU or a new monitor. However, If I can achieve at least 60fps even at lower settings with my GTX 970 I'd be willing to get the a 3440x1440 monitor before I upgrade my GPU.

Is it possible to achieve 60 fps on games like Batman Arkham Knight, and The Witcher 3 with the resolution set to 3440x1440 on a GTX 970?

Solution

yeah go for that. some older...

I guess I should state I don't a need constant 60fps, but at least getting there most of the time would be nice. I'm thinking about getting a GTX 1070 if i upgrade, and my two 24inch 1080p displays are a bit small, and take up a bit of space, having one nice ultrawide monitor would help me have less clutter around too.

970 on medium get around 50 fps so with low settings you can get 60fps for sure.

Look at your monitor as a long term investment and your GPU as a short term one. Buying a good ultra wide screen monitor will last several builds and many GPU upgrades. You probably won't achieve 60 fps @ 1440p with a 1070 with everything set to high or ultra, but you may get close.

I'm running a 980ti on a Acer Predator X34 and run most everything at High or Ultra settings. I'm not too worried if games dip below 60 FPS b/c of GSync.

Ultra Wide gaming is an experience like no other.

Thank you, I appreciate everyones responses, I think I'll probably run with my 970 a little longer, I'll lean more towards getting that monitor I desire very much; the LG ultra wide monitors look gorgeous.

yeah go for that. some older games might be able to run at medium-high settings 1440p too
