I want to get a GTX 970, but would hate to buy it today only to see the price drop due to either a new GPU release mid-March or a price reduction due to the whole 3.5gb vs 4gb controversy.

Anyone with insight on this?

For the record I game at 1080p 60fps and I don't play the most bleeding edge games but want at least a 3 year card and I'm thinking the 970 is the best option for me as I'm team green. Not looking to debate the merits of Nvidia vs AMD.

Thanks in advance.

Even after the whole 3.5gb or 4gb controversy there will be no huge price drop in future, but the difference will be of 25$ max, just go for, we dont have better GPU than this in manner of performance per dollar

My fear is that the GTX 960 TI or 970 TI will be coming soon and I'll miss out on the better bang for the buck as well. But you're right I should just pick it up and quickly.

if you are thinking like i can get better hardware in future then you cant live in present, technology never settles down.

No but if I were to have bought the GTX 970 in October I would have likely paid about the same and got an extra few months of use out of it. In that sense I sometimes think it will be better to grab the TI's when they come out. But again, it's hard to predict when that is going to happen. And even when they do then it's months before the likes of Asus, EVGA or MSI come out with their non-reference perfectly O.C.'d designs. On the other hand the 3 year warranty only starts the day the sale goes through thus making sure it will have a slightly longer lifespan.

I'm only skiddish because when I built my first rig it was June 2013 and I bought a GTX 660 when I would have been better off into the 700 series, but I cheaped out. Don't want to repeat that mistake.

Just bit the bullet, EVGA GTX 970 FTW+ ACX2.0+ "4gb" card. Now the question is, what do I do with my GTX 660, drop it into another PCI Express slot and assign it PhysX duties? I suspect that might be a waste.
