It could also be MSI Afterburner w RivaTuner.

That said, do you have any other way to monitor temps, fanspeed, etc while in game? I find these very beneficial when troubleshooting. It also gives me peace of mind that my GPU is not overheating. Even though I am pretty anal about regularly cleaning out my computer, I can see when dust is starting to become a factor before it becomes a overheating problem.

I run this combo on my system as well as both my son's, daughters, and wife's computers.
Shadowplay has an FPS and recording indicator as well as a camera recorder. It is included with NVidia drivers for the GTX 970.

You can enable/disable all of these in the GeForce experience software in the system tray (near the clock...you may need to click the up-arrow to show all). Just open GeForce experience, look under the shadowplay tab or click the shadowplay button. You can enable/disable these options and select where they show on the screen.

* Addendum: Since you said he is 3...Sometimes this is enabled/disabled by a keyboard button combo. If he pressed some random keys this is likely all that happened. :)

If you have a nvidia card like the gtx you likely have geforce experience, unless you deselected it when you installed your nvidia drivers. If the counter is green its geforce experience.

No problem.

Just FYI, Afterburner uses RivaTunerStatisticsServer to actually control / display the OSD. Afterburner just provides a hook to RivaTuner with a nice user interface to select which items you want to display in the OSD.

If you are absolutely certain you don't want the OSD, you should get rid of RivaTuner Statistics Server from you Programs and Features. However you can leave Afterburner if you want to set a custom fan profile or overclock.
