Also, will both cards fit inside the Corsair Carbide 540 Air? And what power supply W will I need for either sli configs?

Need help asap as I can purchase both options - I just want future proofing!

According to this (http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/nvidia_geforce_gtx_970_and_980_reference_review,1.html) the 980 gets about 10 more frames per second than the 970. I dont think its worth the it, but its up to you. If your going to game on 4k then I would make the jump otherwise even a single card setup will perform great.

The 980 sli will perform better, and you will get about 15-20fps more than the 970sli. Its up to you whether the cost is justified. Both will perform great at 1440p.

2x 970's evga if it were me. @$350 each this is the best deal and 2 x 970 will be plenty for any
resolution at full ultra.
My 2x770 SC Acx sli put me at 95fps in Tomb Raider, 77fps in Metro LL full ultra settings, so Im not upgrading yet. Just no need to. I was really looking to go single gpu, but the 980gtx just isnt fast enough. Hopefully the 980ti will be.

lol whoa, u are trying to play at 1million p? u are only playing at 144hz 1440, its not like ur gona play on 4k. u absolutely do not need to waste money on 2x 980.

Also to answer u, the 970 performs better than r9 290 and a gtx 780. And the jump to a 780ti is not that much to justify the price on the ti. And no waste of money to get 2x 980, get the 2x970 and invest in something else.

if i am not mistaken there should be an option somewhere, that temporarily disables sli or xfire to allow for single GPU usage in these cases.

Normally, well i am positively 100% that there is somewhere where you can specify the game you do not wish to render on multi GPU to avoid the issue of non sli compatible coding.

Personally I'd go with two MSI GTX 970 GAMING 4G GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 HDCP Ready SLI Support G-SYNC Support Video Cards...With the price gouging on the 980's atm, u can purchase two of these for the price of 1 980.. TO me it's a no brainer. EDIT: I actually acquired 2 x GIGABYTE GV-N970G1 GAMING-4GD GeForce GTX 970 4GB 256-Bit GDDR5 PCI Express 3.0 HDCP Ready G-SYNC Support Video cards with a Core Clock of 1178 and a Boost Clock of 1329....They have the MSI and Gigabyte versions of them on New Egg at the time of this posting. As far as I know of atm, the Gigabyte is the fastest 970 on the market atm.

Almost all new games have excellent sli support... out of some 300 games I own only 7 of them dont support sli. Sli is the way to game and developers know this, you wont find very many games that dont support sli. Theres a list out there that says which games do and the few games that don't. If we were back in the stone age, then mabe you'd find games that dont utilize 2 cards....but not in the year 2014....

If he us doing 2x970 or 1x980 Where is he saving any money? 2 cards for around 350 or one card for 600 actually makes the 980 cheaper. You have a more powerful card, then in a few years when prices come down he has the option to get another 980. I personally would do that. He doesnt even have to upgrade to two 980s later but the option is always there and 2x980 is better than 2x970
