GTX 970 SSC + i5 3570k

Solution

Also costs a lot more..

The SSC version of the 970 is still a beast, same performance as a 1060 in most titles with it even beating it in others. (This may be due to the 1060 still being new and better drivers aren't out yet)
But for future proofing reasons, I would be looking at a 1060 due to the higher VRAM 6gb vs the 970's 3.5gb.

I'm not from canada, but from a quick look a ASUS Strix 1060 is the same price...

I'd check reviews and find the board partner card you like the best and go with that. I personally will be going for the MSI Gaming X version or the EVGA SC.

Yeah I realised that and edited my comment, I assumed that Canada was getting screwed on the prices as much as australia. Our 1060s start at $400 and 1070s start at like $700

But to get a 1070 with a decent cooler and higher stock clocks he will have to spend an extra $150-$200 or so.
Its always best to stick with a budget, because the 1070 is 'only an extra $100-150 more than the 1060" but then a 1080 will only be an extra $150- 200 over the 1070.

haha sorry about that, the answer to your question is you wont get any bottlenecking. But It would be better to look at a 1060 instead of the 970 as the 970 is older and the 1060 has more VRAM.
