I bought battlefield 1 on release and have been struggling to obtain a stable/playable frame rate.
I have a GTX 970, i5 3570k and 16 gb ram. I dont know whether it is a problem with my pc or if it is simply not powerful enough to run the game at above 60 fps. (I am also running a dual monitor setup)

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated

Thanks

That is probably an incorrect reading. Im pretty sure your system would shut off if your CPU is idling at 100C. What program are you using to monitor temps? Try out different programs, and see if it gives different readings. If they all say its idling at 100C, the temp sensors in your CPU might be broken.
Its saying my cpu is running at 100 degrees even when idle which is quite worrying ???🙁

Agreed. Your system would shut down to prevent damage if temps were at 100C for sure,

We need more information. What resolution are you running? What FPS are you getting?

A dual monitor setup will not affect performance but you should use one monitor just to be sure. Add the second once the issue is resolved. The only time extra monitors make an impact is if you are actually running the game on all monitors (3 and 6 display setups).

I was thinking the same thing but Ive tried multiple recomended cpu monitors such as core temp and they all show the same thing (If you have any other recomendations let me know)

Thats what I was thinking too as the pc itself doesnt feel hot at all.

I am running at 1080p, low and medium settings but my fps is fluctuating between around 50 fps and 90. I sometimes notice it in even less graphically intensive games such as overwatch at times.

Yep then your CPU temp sensors are probably broken. I dont think this affects your CPU performance, other than you wont be able to see how hot it runs.
How about your GPU, how hot does that go? And what was CPU and GPU usage when gaming?
