GTX 970 vs GTX 1060 3gb

Hello!
So I'm building my first gaming PC and have the choice between a GTX 970 4gb Asus strix OC for 217$ or a GTX 1060 3gb ASUS dual for 250$

Keep in mind I'm using an i3-7100 & 8 GB RAM

Help is greatly appreciated ^^

GTX 1060 will likely pull ahead a bit in processing power. The extra 512 mb VRAM the GTX 970 offers isn't enough to sway my point of view.

passmark puts them at near identical, so save some cash.

Yeah I would go with the GTX 970. An extra .5GB of regular speed VRAM and .5GB of the slower speed seems like the better deal. Not a fan of the GTX 970s VRAM setup but even my GTX 980s with a full 4GB@ full speed has issues with some games maxing out said VRAM. A GTX 1060 3GB is going to be even worse off in those situations. If you could afford a GTX 1060 6GB or shave some off your build price somewhere else, the 6GB variant would be the best choice of all.

if you can get the core clock around 1.4ghz the 970 can be as fast as 1060 6GB depending on tittles (hardware unboxed use EVGA 1060 6GB FTW in their test):

if you're lucky able to push 970 to 1.5ghz mark then the performance technically only a few frame behind GTX1060 6GB OCed to 2.1ghz:

Some of the 6 GB 1060's are in the same price range as the 970.
