gtx 970 vs r9 290

Solution
Let this be the judge of R9 290 and GTX 970. Both of the cards trade blows with each other. But I think that the GTX 970 is much better TDP wise. Less TDP, means less heat, means less noise, means longer lifespan of the GPU.

Truth be told the value is in the deal but USUALLY the R9 290 is less expensive, and just pips the GTX970 in bang per (your currency here) because of it.

Check prices closely, because here in the UK it's possible to bag a R9 290X for the same as a decent GTX970, if it's the same where you live the extra performance of the 'X' card tips the balance of price/performance in favour of the Red Team.

As a rabid, mouth foaming, snarling AMD fan of long standing it pains me to say this but the GTX970 is the better all round product though.

A free copy of the Witcher 3 with the GTX 970 should tilt the scales.

Problem with amd cards are their drivers or lack thereof. Amd hasn't put out new drivers since December.. nvidia has released a new driver almost every month this year.. I've had both cards.. the gtx 970 is a better card, even though I hate to admit it.. it just ran games more smoothly and at higher frame rates. Nvidia lost me as a fan ever since the 970 lies though. If only amd was better about keeping their drivers updated and optimized...
