In your personal opinion which of these cards is better for gaming/modelling/animating?

These cards seem so similar in performance that I just want a couple of personal opinions on which one is good.

Thanks

Then unless you need the 4GB extra VRAM on the R9 390 (aka 1440p/4K monitors), I would say go with the R9 290x. It's faster than either card, and about the same price. Just make sure you have a decent 600W+ PSU (depends on your pc specs).

For modelling/animating actual RAM will be more important than VRAM.

Um, no the 290X is not faster. The 390 has better power circuitry and better memory modules, which translates into better OC performance. A 390 will easily go 1200Mhz core and 6200Mhz memory. This will allow for better performance than the 290x.

Not to mention the fact that you if get the new TF V from MSI, which has active VRM and memory cooling, you'd be golden.

Now, between the 970 and 390, the 970 is more efficient, but if you don't care about that, 390 gets a bit higher FPS, and also that 8GB memory buffer, might come in handy for live previewing.
