Hi guys,

I've been wanting to upgrade my monitor since earlier this year, but I though I could wait a bit longer in order to see if prices dropped a bit and if G-SYNC became more available.

However, lately I made up my mind about stepping up my game from 1080p to 1440p and 144hz but I'm VERY concerned about the performance I might get with my actual rig.

Below I leave you my specs:

- Intel Core i5-3570K CPU @ 3.40GHz (4 CPUs), ~3.4GHz
- Gigabyte GeForce GTX 970 Gaming G1 WindForce OC 4GB GDDR5
- G.Skill Ripjaws X DDR3 1600 PC3-12800 16GB 2x8GB CL10
- Asus P8Z77-V LX

What do you think? Will I be able to run smoothly 1440p with that high hz? Should I forget about it and just buy a very good 1080p monitor? I've read tons of stuff about that GPU properly running 1440p in games, but I'm now more concerned about the high hz...

Should I even consider overclocking my GPU?

I'd really appreciate some help, as this matter is driving me nuts!

Thank you very much!!

You won't get 144 FPS from the GTX 970 at 1440p in demanding games, but that doesn't mean it won't have playable performance and/or better quality than 1080p @ 60Hz. You can always turn down the resolution to 1080p if you need higher frame rates.

Thanks for your answer Calculagator, so... should I stick to 1080p instead? I heard bad things about scaling down the resolution of the monitor and honestly if I have to use 1080p I won't pay that much for the ROG Swift, right? :D

Hmmm will I have a better gaming experience in 1440p medium/high settings or should I keep my 1080p ultra settings?

Furthermore... what about overclocking the GPU? Worth to mention? Will it be enough to squeeze some FPS up?

Hope you enjoy it.
You should definitely look at overclocking. The G1 970 especially should overclock well. It absolutely will increase your performance. It can also decrease stability, but it's not too hard to find a stable balance.
