What would be best. A single gtx 970 EVGA ftw ed or crossfire r7 370 4 gig MSI cards?

With a single 970, you don't need to worry if a game has CrossFire support.

Go with the 970 or a 390. More energy efficient, less heat, no issues with crossfire, and better performance.

Here are some benchmarks. The 970 isn't there for some reason, but the 390 is. The 390 is roughly equivalent to the 970. Both the 390 and 970 beat 370 Crossfire.
