hey guys....planning to buy the gtx 970 msi or asus string version...just need to know whether it will fit/work in my rig or not my pc specs;

Technically the motherboard is PCI Express 2.0, so it will work with PCI Express 3.0 cards, all of which are backwards compatible. Your PSU also will be able to provide enough power to the graphics card.

Your CPU however will severly limit the graphics card, since it is a weak CPU. It will cause a bottleneck and you will not be able to use either card to its full potential. You actually might not even see much difference if any between a GTX 970 and your GTX 660 because of the weak CPU. Upgrade your cpu first if you can.

you mean to say no change at all? I know it will bottleneck but to dat extent!!!
actually was saving up for upgrading motherboard as well as the CPU...but no cash as of now..........
any advice....maybe I could go for a cheaper option for CPU
........any options??

If you can get one of these cpu's it would be a good upgrade:

But you could also invest in a new motherboard and cpu, which would be better on the long run, for example this:

This I3 is pretty powerful, having 4 cores with hyperthreading, and it doesn't cause a bottleneck even with a GTX 970. For better performance you can get an i5 for about $80 more. The H97 motherboard will let you upgrade to at least the next generation of intel cpu's.

get a pentium g3258 and a aftermarket closed loop cooler. you should be able to get that thing to 4.5 ghz with some overclocking. you then will be able to pair it with a gtx 970 with no bottleneck whatsoever.

if I upgrade from gtx 660 to gtx 970 at my current processor(i3 550) would there be no change in performance???

with that 550 you wont feel the power of the gtx 970 hehe, better change the cpu for the options that gived the users. i think its not the better choise purchasing the 960 first than the cpu. and change the mobo too for future changes.

The Pentium G3258 is also an option, but also requires a new motherboard. I don't like the G3258 very much, even if you achieve a nice overclock it doesn't perform very well due to its dual-core. If you play older games (not optimized for multi-core cpu's) the G3258 is a nice option for sure.
