I just ordered 2 monitors (it was a 2 for 1 special) and I was just wondering how can I setup a dual monitor with a gtx 970? I don't have it yet but plan to have it within 1 month. Do I need a gpu with 2 HDMI ? Or there is a special cable for 1 HDMI to 2 monitors? Thanks and merry christmas 😀

Fine. Display port > HDMI > DVIs (DVI-D is digital only, DVI-I is both analog and digital, DVI-A is analog only).

Display port carries more information (as signals) than HDMI can but display port carries only video signals. HDMI carries both video and audio signals at the same time which is why HDMI is the most used display connection *overall* in the world. This comes in handy when you've monitor (or the TV) with speakers.

DVI is limited to the RGB color range (0–255) whereas HDMI supports RGB, but also supports YCbCr 4:4:4 and YCbCr 4:2:2. These ranges are widely used outside of (beyond) computer graphics, color rendering.

So, in your case, use Display port if you don't have a monitor with built-in speakers or would like to use...
No, a single GTX 970 can hold up to 4 different monitors. The Gigabyte G1 GTX 970 is the best of it. With 3 display ports, 1 HDMI, 1 DVI-D, 1 DVI-I, two monitor setup is easy. I would use the HDMI+Displayport combination or HDMI+DVI-I combo or DVI-I+DVI-D combo for the two monitors. May I know what resolutions those two monitors are?

The 2 monitors are 1920x1080. But is there a difference between HDMI and DVI? Because I want the best image quality possible

What is a Display port? Do I need a special cable for that? What's the name of the plug on the monitor and the gpu?

**EDIT**

Nvm, I figured that out. I guess I need display port to hdmi cables...

Great info, wanted to get another monitor to my setup because its a bit cheaper than getting a 21:9

Would HDMI+Displayport be the best you think for sounding coming from the tvs or monitors

This thread is old and newer HDMI versions are out. To answer your question, HDMI is enough. What's your TV's resolution?
