So i tried playing Battlefield 4 (maxed out) at my dual monitor setup, just to test out the performance. To my dissapointment, my GTX 980 only manages to keep 50-55 fps on this resolution. Should'nt the fastest single-GPU perform better? :/

Solution

It's probably not CPU bottlenecked if you have a 4gen i7.

And the 980 IS a monster performer, but at max settings, most games don't go beyond 100FPS even on a single 1080p monitor. It's easy to make more work for a processor by just upping draw distance and other variables.

If 4k = 47 fps, then this might be normal then.. But i still expected more - i thought of my GPU as a MONSTER performer, with LOTS of excess power.

"CPU locked" - you mean that my CPU bottlenecks? It should not; it's a 4.gen i7

Hm. Allright. Thanks for the insight :)

i think your fps results are fine.
some of my benchmarks with i7-4790 and gtx 980:

shadow of mordor ultra texture pack+4k+maxed settings 26-40 fps

cod advanced warfare maxed+4k ( SSAA disabled ) 65-80 fps

watch dogs 4k+fxaa+maxed 30-45fps

dying light 4k+maxed 30-40 fps ( but hitting vram limit sometimes what actually causes hard stutter)

ac unity 4k 15-20 fps ( unplayable)

far cry 4 smaa + maxed 4k 36-45fps

so overall i think your performance is just normal.

Thank you very much for your benchmarks! I will try to compare in the same games 🙂
