Technically I wish I could buy the Asus Strix GTX 980 DC2T, however it probably won't arrive to Israel, my country.

So... MSI VS GIGABYTE Gaming cards:
Cooling, stability, factory oc, oc potential, noise levels, design, looks, performance?..

Might check with DCS

Pulled this off the Asus website, know I waited and waited, till I was finally able to get the 980 Strix, and love it

IS the cooling of GB G1 better than Asus Strix? what about the feature in both Asus and MSI that the fans don't spin when idle or low load? I don't think G1 has it, and I am afraid G1 is a power-hog. But I love what I have seen and heard about Gigabyte G1 so far, Linus tips also loved it, although says it takes more power than usual.

According to the German site i7 posted (that for some reason Google Chrome fails to offer a translation) : the Gigabyte G1 Gaming is significantly the best card in terms of performance AND temperatures. I am surprised its that cooler and better than Strix and MSI in performance.
Wow.. if this page is legit.. G1 should be the best pick, no?
Of course its a close race, but G1 seems to lead the charts and runs very cool supposedly.

I have a question, this is my current rig:
Core i5-3570K (running @ 4.2 Ghz - slight auto voltage OC).
Asus Sabertooth Z77 Motherboard
Asus 670 GTX DC2T
16 GB of G.Skill ripjaw-X DDR3 1600Mhz
SSD 256GB Crucial M4.
HD Western Digital Black 2TB
CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D14
Case: Corsair CC600T Graphite White Special Edition
Running Win 8.1 64bit. Pro
Monitor: Asus ROG SWIFT PG278Q 2560 x 1440p

Considering Gigabyte's G1 Gaming GTX980 costs more power and resources: will I be able to SLI ???
(Consider my power supplier and power consumption)
I don't plan on upgrade the power supplier since its a good one.

Also, a side question: should I bother keeping the 670 plugged as a 2ndry "physics" card? Does it improve FPS in any way? Or is it unnecessary and will just cost me extra power?

LOL ooops.
My PSU is Corsair AX850 full modular:

Now, can I run a Gigabyte 980 SLI? or 980 SLI at all?

Oh another question, kind of irrelevant but:
My new Asus ROG Swift monitor runs on DisplayPort (only), because of the 1440p 144hz Gsync.
However, there is a problem with it, that it doesn't show an image during system boot, POST (BIOS) and pre-windows loadup. The screen comes up just when windows is starting and my profile is loaded.
Before that, when I turn on the PC or restart it, I can hear the post beep, but the screen shows "no signal". So I can never see the BIOS press DEL screen, or the PRESS F8 screen of windows boot.
I think its an issue with DisplayPort connections in general.

Good to know! I think I will pick the Gigabyte G1.
Do you know the answer for my other question above?
Basically I figured out what's happening, but can't fix it:

During BOOT, post and bios and windows logo loading: my main monitor (connected via DisplayPort to my GPU's DP) will show "no signal" and won't show any image, while my HDMI TV (connected via HDMI from my GPU to an AV Reciever that's connected to the TV) - actually shows the POST screen and windows loading. So I can actually access BIOS or the F8 menus via my living room's TV.
When I disconnect the HDMI cable, and restart/turn on the system: the screen shows the boot process, "press del" and windows loadup fine - on the pc monitor.

So basically - if both HDMI and DP are connected at once, the BOOT will only display/output on the HD TV and never on my PC monitor. Can I change the priorities somehow?

Reading the extremely scrambled translation of the German benchmarks you posted again:
It really seems like the G1 is the best 980 out there.
However - MSI might be the most attractive for most users: because G1 is also the most noisy and power hungry of the cards.
While MSI power consumption seems to be similar to G1, the noise levels of the MSI are the lowest, and at idle the fans don't spin.

In the noise test videos, the G1 sounds really noisy. But it might be muffled in the case with the case fans on. Not sure how bad it is.. Anyone using the G1 Gaming?

Turning down the fans still keeps it well within thermal constraints while reducing the noise to a low "whoosh." I've hear the G1 and it's fine on lower settings. Based off the fact that it seems to act very similarly to my WFx3 (the precursor to it) then I imagine you could reduce the fans to sub 40% and keep temps well within the 70s. The Gigabyte coolers seem to get less efficient the higher you turn the fan in a noise/temp ratio. I do have an intake fan pointed at it though.

You mean setting fans to constant 40%?
With my current 670 GTX (Asus DC2T) I use EVGA default auto fan curve to keep temps running low (so basically 40c = 40%, 70c=0%).
How do you suggest I should program the fan curve?

Also is it really necessary? if G1 cooling is that good, maybe I should just keep it the way it is. Both Guru3d and Linus Tech Tips said: "running cool while being pretty darn quiet". So maybe I should just let the fans run at factory settings?

Anyway the G1 is not in stock yet, I need to wait a few more days.
Alternatively I can get the EVGA ACX 2.0 SC for cheaper, or the MSI GTX 980 Gaming right now.

Need to make that final decision..
Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 Gaming has a very high core and boost clocks (significantly higher than MSI), and with its superior cooling: it might be the best card for non overclocks, while simultaneously the best card for future manual overclocking.
The G1 seems to be more rigid, with its beautiful backplate. Which in my opinion is very important for cleaning too. Because you can wipe of dust with a damp cloth much easier than the back side of a chip (like EVGA or MSI) which has sharp pins that tear the cloth and leave residue.
G1's cons are the potential noise, and power consumption - as it takes more power than 780ti.

MSI on the other hand is less power hungry. Taking less power than 780ti like the reference 980.

So is it true that I would be able to SLI the Gigabyte G1 980 with 850w of PSU? Also is there enough room? (MSI is thinner).

EDIT: I saw now someone on the G1 Facebook page saying that 850w wasn't enough for him so he ordered a 1250w PSU. I can't and won't replace my PSU, so I really need a straight answer: can I SLI the GTX 980 G1 (with its higher than 780ti power consumption)?

extra edit:
Just ran through the two Guru3d reviews of GB and MSI:
If you compare the G1 Power consumption and temps here:
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/gigabyte_geforce_gtx_980_g1_gaming_review,10.html

vs. the MSI power consumption and temps:
http://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/msi_geforce_gtx_980_gaming_oc_review,7.html

Its surprising - but Guru3rd claims that the GTX 980 MSI Gaming takes more power WATTS than the GB G1 ???
That's really odd since all other reviews said G1 is a power hog, and MSI has the best power efficiency.

But according to this review: G1 is cooler, nearly as quiet (40db vs msi's 39db) and cost less power than the MSI.
Does it make any sense?

OK for those that are still interested, what do you guys think of the EVGA GTX 980 ACX 2.0 SC ?
It looks pretty darn impressive.
The only con I see is the lack of BACKPLATE - WHY???! I love backplates, so much better for cleaning, protection, rigidity and ascetics.

I was barely able to find decent reviews of this card, maybe because the acx 2.0 version is new:
http://www.overclockers.com/evga-gtx980-superclocked-acx2.0-graphics-card-review

Its even cheaper than both MSI and GB for me. But only a little bit. What's important now is he quality, stability, cooling and performance.

I have both MSI and Gigabyte 970 in SLI and I assume 980 is similar in design and cooler wise.
So Gigabyte Pros:
Best default clocks
Lowest temps
Silent

Cons:
Fans always running
Longest of them all

MSI Pros:
Great temps (Bit higher then gigabyte)
Extremely beautiful looking aesthetically
2nd highest default clocks
Fan doesn't run at all at idle or temps lower then 55C

Cons:
Lower default clocks then gigabyte and can't match gigabyte overclock

My personal recommendation is to get Gigabyte if your case can support that long card. Also stay away from EVGA, their ACX coolers are poorly designed and they run hotter and louder then other brands.

Gigabyte, MSI and ASUS are the way to go in that order IMO. ASUS has the lowest clocks of all three.

First of all, thanks for the info man.
Gigabyte GTX 980 G1 Gaming is indeed my #1 choice at the moment. Also for future SLI (hopefully I have enough power).

However I think you are totally incorrect about the EVGA!
If you followed up on the EVGA ACX 1.0 incident with the ppor cooling, the EVGA ACX 1.0 970 had issues, yes:
The heatsink was not sitting fully on the gpu. So about 33% of the gpu was not cover, and thus the GPU would get really hot.

However EVGA fixed that with their ACX 2.0:
They totally reinvented the cooling system, a new and imporved heat sink and a different layout. If you read the review I just posted above, the temps are very good and I think its very quiet as well. Also won't spin under 60c.

I might be mistaken, but in my opinion. since EVGA really screwed up with the ACX 1.0 - they have made double-efforts to insure their ACX 2.0 SC card will rock and have a solid cooling system.
The only issue I have with the ACX 2.0 now is the lack of backplate.
Also MSI can't be that gorgeous since its upside down when you connect it, so you don't see the ascetics - that's why all cards need a stylish backplate! (also great for cleaning dust of the plate).

What do you think? EVGA ACX 2.0 SC also have the highest clocks of all 980s

Are you sure? EVGA has the best starting clocks (not sure if its that important).
um... then I think I might just pick the G1. Can you turn off the blue led on the Windforce logo? (I wish it was just white).

I wouldn't go EVGA for atleast couple generations until they re-built their trust. Building trust takes ages while losing it takes a simple blunder like they did with ACX and on top of that releasing immature statements instead of just outright accepting their mistake.

Anyway, there are many other respected brands out there to even consider evga at this point unless EVGA is easily available to you while Gigabyte/MSI/ASUS isn't. I personally won't recommend evga to anyone at this point.
