My 980 is running horribly in every game, even when I put the video settings to low. It started yesterday when I went to play Battlefield 4(to enhance my Battlefield skills before the awesome Battlefield One comes out) and my fps was staying at around 30 with sudden drops to single digits. I was confused cause I used the Geforce experience to optimize the settings so I should be getting a higher fps. I lowered the settings to normal and got the same results. Even putting the settings to low would get me a fps of 60 but I would still get frame rate drops to single digits. Far Cry Primal runs even worse with what seemed to be an average fps of 9(lol) and does not change no matter what I put the settings to. I did some research and found nothing that would work. I was overclocked to 4.6 on my I7-6700k, but I put the speed back to the stock speed because I read that this problem could be due to a bad overclock... that didn't work.

Did you:

- Set your power options to performance?
- Update motherboard firmware, Windows and GeForce drivers?
- Check your temperatures with a relevant utility like GPU-Z?
- Check all your hardware is properly seated, if you put it together yourself?

Thanks for the fast response!
-I just changed my power options to performance.
-motherboard bios, windows and Geforce drivers all up to date
-temperatures stay low. Seems that only 40% of my gpu is being used and it is staying at 40-50 celsius during load
-I did put it together myself and the hardware is all properly seated.
Still super laggy

Well there are some bitcoin miners trojans that use rootkits so you wont see them.
1) download roguekiller run a scan and clean
2) download adwcleaner and jrt and run those
3) download malwarebytes antimalware run scan and clean
4) download Emsisoft Emergency Kit update and run that.

new ones are smart only start during a load and kill game fps the progams can be downloaded from: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/

Just did it. Found 6 'possible threats' and deleted them all, but it still didnt fix my lag problem unfortunately.

Exactly.. now its 50c max. Before I would get up to 70-75c but now all of a sudden it stays cold and lags really badly

Yeah that's what I was thinking too. Do you know of a way to reset everything that deals with the gpu? Some way to make the gpu look like a brand new card to the system?
