Hey guys hope you can help me out, I recently got a GTX 980 SC and a 750 wat power supply as gift. (I also have an Intel i7 3770k core processor.) After installing the graphics card and the power supply everything was running fine so I decided to run Grand Theft Auto 5 on ultra graphics. The game was running smoothly for about 45 seconds, then it froze, then a minute later the computer went black then restarted. So after it restarted I decided to run Fallout 4 on ultra graphics. That did the same thing, ran smoothly for about 45 seconds, froze, then went black and restarted. So I decided to do it one more time with a different game. Counter Strike: Global Offensive. Even that crashed on the highest graphics, my old graphics card could handle the highest graphics on Counter Strike! I've tried everything I can think of, Installing drivers, reinstalling drivers, moved the graphics card to a different slot on my motherboard, I tried DDU, hell I tried pretty much everything on Google when I searched this problem. It's so weird too, I ran Fallout 4 on high graphics not ultra and that seemed to be running fine. Only on ultra graphics my games/computer crashes. Could it be overheating? I ran a stress test and the CPU shot up to 150 Fahrenheit. I'm not sure if that's too high or not. I have 4 fans and a vent on the side of the tower. It's in a open space it should be getting enough air. I just don't know what else to do it bums me out that nothing seems to be working. If you guys could help me out that be amazing, thank you!

Solution

The EVGA G2 650w would be a good choice at just under $100. If none of your temps are too high then it's very likely to be the power supply.

I am going to agree with this. Check that power supply.

Rebooting under load means when the PC is under stress, like gaming or a stress test. The CX series are Tier 4 PSU's, I've had no issues with mine but you may have got unlucky, do you have a suitable power supply to test?

Just found out my hardrive is failing 🙁. It probably has something to do with that why it's not working. Once I get a new hardrive I'll see if the graphics card will work then, if not I'll try your solution. Thank you for your time and help I appreciate it sneaky! :)

That's unfortunate 🙁 Another thing you could try before replacing the PSU is a memory test, this is unlikely to be it as it SHOULD bluescreen, but you never know. Feel free to come back here if you have further issues :)
