So before the 900 series was announced I was planing on buying another 780ti so I could sli them to run my new monitor the 34UM95. Since they said they will no longer be making the 780ti and the only place I can find them is Amazon for 600 dollars, my question is should I just go for two 980s? The 4gb vram would be welcome addition. Let me know what you think.

Go with the 980. The new features and the extra VRAM is nice.

The 980 is faster than the 780 Ti, and with a nice OC can become even faster. OC to OC they are about even, but with a custom BIOS, that may change.

That said, what resolution are you running? If you're running 1080p, you are better off with a 970. There is only about a 10 - 12 FPS difference between the 970 and 980, which isn't worth an extra $200 - $250 at 1080p.

The monitor I have is 3440x1440, its an odd resolution since its 21:9 ratio.

With that resolution you would probably be better off with two 970's in SLI. One 980 may do it, but it probably won't max every game.

he already has a 780ti from what it says in his post, 2 780tis will beat a single 980, wont be a bad idea to pick up a used 780ti for cheaper and more raw power for that monitor.

thats an extended 1440p monitor, so it has a decent amount of pixels. I would run the sli option for higher fps but a single 780ti should be able to push most games at 60fps and max out its 60hz.

Oops, didn't even notice he said he had one. In that case, it would be best go SLI if he can find one at a good price.

+1 to that that is why i still run 2 7970s handles 1440p on max for most games just fine and still is a little more powerful than a 780ti at an expense of more power/heat/noise. they still run cool unless it is 90+ in my room
