Hello Tom's Hardware experts, and thanks for visiting my thread.

I recently upgraded from a GTX 960 to a GTX 980. The 960 is an EVGA SSC with the ACX 2.0 cooler. The 980 is the reference model, the one that has the LEDs, from NVidia, I mean no board partners, just the one NVidia that looks like a tank.
The 980 is Hot, way hotter than the GTX 960, It doesn't even leave me room for a overclock. So I was thinking if I can replace the 980's cooling system with the GTX 960's ACX, I have some experience with opening and tinkering hardware, I even built my PC piece by piece. But I never opened a video card, I already have some thermal paste, and the needed screws to open them up and start the procedure, but before doing such thing, I just need an advice from experts like you. What do you think? Is that a good idea? Have anyone ever tried this?

Ahh. by the way, the board is the same size! I just noticed that the board is exactly the same size, but I don't think the chip will be the same size, so that could be a problem.
