About a week ago I'm playing OW and notice my gpu temp is kinda getting up there. Lately when I play just about anything it'll run close to 91c consistently. When it's idling on desktop it's anywhere from 45-50c. What could be causing this and what can I do to fix it? Any help is appreciated

Welcome to the forums, newcomer!

What could be causing this ...
What are your ambient room air temps? Optimal airflow in your chassis? Dust/debris clogging up the fans and or the intakes on the system?

For added measure, list your specs like so:
CPU:
Motherboard:
Ram:
SSD/HDD:
GPU:
PSU:
Chassis:
OS:

include the age of the PSU.

CPU: i7 4790K
Motherboard: Gigabyte Z97M-DS3H
Ram: GSkill 16gb DDR3
SSD/HDD: 256gb SSD, 1TB HDD, 2TB HDD
GPU: GTX 980 Strix
PSU: 600W
Chassis: Fractal Design (not sure of exact model)
OS: Windows 10 Home

The airflow in the case isn't the best. Right now I've got the side panel off and it doesn't seem to be helping. I just played a round of OW and it steadily sat at 92c. FPS was 40-55. I've hit the inside with some compressed air on several occasions and I'm not sure if that's doing any good.
