Updated my driver this morning with GeForce Express installation, seemed to work fine no problems.
Restarted the computer later in the day, and just got a black screen.
I managed to get back into windows using the internal graphics, and the device manager showed the card as disconnected (i.e. only visible under the "show hidden devices" option, greyed out).
To cut a long story short, after some fiddling (removing and re-seating the card, CMOS reset, trying HDMI and DP cables, and two different monitors), I completely reinstalled Windows 10. But my beloved GTX 980Ti still isn't detected.
The card itself has power, the fans spin briefly during boot up, the LEDs pulse as expected so it looks alive... but the PCI bus isn't showing anything at all.
Ideally I'd try putting it in another machine to test it , but as we can't leave the house at the minute I'm a bit stuck..
Do we reckon it's dead hardware, and just a coincidence that it happened after the driver update?
Do driver updates ever re-flash the card? Could something have gone wrong that's still fixable, or is it toast?
