GTX 980 Ti Resolution Issues

Recently been having some issues with my desktop's display. Red horizontal lines flickering on the screen (mostly in black and darker colour areas) but after doing a clean driver install things seem to be okay except for my monitor's resolution.

The lines are gone but the monitor isn't fully recognized and starts at a lower than usual resolution. It lets me turn it back up but upon doing so actually sets itself to 800x600 and then doesn't allow the resolution to be changed further. The display also doesn't fit the screen at this point as everything seems too large.

If I go through everything I can get the resolution back but then also get the red flickering lines as well. I've tried this with multiple monitors and different cables and the problem persists so I don't think it's the monitor itself (the lines don't show up in screenshots either.) The flickering lines also don't appear until the Windows startup screen (the BIOS screen is fine.)

Is this a driver problem? Is the card dying?

Solution
Since you say that it's not a monitor problem (which I think it is not too since you've tried it on different monitors).
Now we need to know what causes the problem. Before that:

1)Did you try reinstalling drivers? Try to reinstall the newest driver then if the problem persists, try to reinstall previous version of the driver when everything was fine.

2)If the problem is still there, if you have another GPU, try to hook that up and see if the problem persists but make sure that GPU is actually not faulty first. If the problem is not there, then it's the GPU

3)If you don't have another GPU to test on then try using the INTEL HD GRAPHICS if your CPU has one and see if the problem persists.

Also from the first two lines of your thread...

Also from the first two lines of your thread, it feels like the GPU got damaged from overheating, try to see temperatures. GPU-Z is a good one

Solution

Already tried reinstalling the drivers clean and trying the previous versions as well. Doesn't seem to fix anything.

Don't have another GPU but tried using the onboard graphics and there's no lines and the resolution is fine. Seems like the card is toast though the temperature never seemed problematic (haven't done anything particularly heavy with this computer in weeks) but thanks for the help!

It's weird though, what could have killed the card? This card is made for way too heavy gaming. Is there any particular thing you remember that could have damaged the card or something? It's too suspicious. Don't throw that 980ti, try to contact Nvidia or something if the warranty's still up or even go to some tech dude who fixes things. It could be another problem that's hidden. If only you could try the 980ti on another system (pc) and see if the problem is still there...

Good luck my friend :) Anytime
