gtx 980 ti watercooling

Hey guys I was planing to get gtx 980 ti amp! extreme. There is no full cover waterblock for it but could I use universal gpu only waterblock and would I have to cool other components on graphics card and how could I do that to make it perform like it has fullcover block and would it affect performance and cooling much if only gpu itself is watercooled and other components passive cooled? Is it safe to do something like that? Now amp extreme has 2 heatsinks I believe but they are connected to each other with pipes so maybe removing one of them which is on gpu and leaving other one on or cutting hole in that one on the gpu just to fit waterblock.

Dont bother getting the amp extreme if you want to water cool. better off using one that can take a full cover waterblock.
