Gtx 980 with gtx 970 combined

Just wondering if it's ever possible to have a gtx 970 working with a gtx 980 on the same motherboard.
Sound like a stupid question I know but I'm in a situation where I'll be getting the two different cards. Really want them to work side By side to increase performance.

If you are intending to use SLI, then the GPU's have to match for best performance.

Sell the 970, upgrade your CPU, if it's not that good or save the money for another 980 in the future.

Even if you have a sli compatible motherboard, they won't work together in sli because they are different.
And one card for physix and the other for the game won't get you a performance boost too in this constellation.
Power supply would be more under stress

Conclusion:
No, this is not getting you more performance. Just use the 980.

You need 2 GPUs with the same exact type e.g. 2x GTX970s or 2xGTX980s. The brand and models can be different.

Sell what you have and go for a 980Ti. Similar performance to sli 970's but with none of the problems associated with sli and more vram
