Hey I have a Hp Envy and I just installed a 980ti and a new 850watt psu. The 980ti turns on; the light is on and fans spin. when I plug the screens in they don't wake, I have tried the DVI and HDMI and neither work. I plugged the screens into the mobo and they immediately turn on and work perfectly. the power supply is installed correctly, every thing works, hdd, disc drive, everything. I suspect it is an issue to do with the bios being locked by Hp themselves but I have also heard that even if it is locked and I get it unlocked the ueif format or something will not be compatible. if you could please help me figure this out that would be great. id rather not have to go out and spend another 250$ on a new mobo and copy of windows. Thanks! :)

Solution

you more than likely need to go into the bios and turn off UEFI and enable legacy mode

it is usually under the security tab

UEFI is sometimes called secure boot, you want to disable it and enable legacy mode

also set primary display to PEG, or PCIE

yes it should, like look around, it should be under the security tab in the bios

here you go

Thanks so much man, I will try that out when I get home! I'll keep you updated!

I went into bios and turned off the secure boot and turned on legacy, I accepted all the changes and started windows up but when I took the cable out of my mobo and put it into the 980ti it still didn't power the screens. What else needs to be done?

did you set primary boot display to PEG or PCIE?

you may also need to turn off the computer and switch the cable to the video card first, then start up

did you uninstall the old video drivers first?

Solution
I haven't tried that yet because I had an old graphics card and figured that was already installed. I heard you didn't necessarily have to uninstall the drivers as long as its Nvidia. Also that is a good idea, I'll have to try that out as well.

Hey, I got it working, I uninstalled all the drivers and changed to legacy mode and now it works flawlessly with the new drivers. Thanks for the help!

enjoy that sexy 980 ti
