Gtx 980ti overkill for 1080p?

So I'm looking at a gtx 980ti for the gpu up grade but I only play at 1080p . I do stream all my games son use a second monitor but is this card over kill for what I need?

Looking to up my frame rates in ultra detail for my stream

For streaming the extra power helps, also for running ultra with higher FPS like with a 144hz monitor.
Generally 980ti is overkill for JUST 1080p gaming though.

MEGA UBER OVERKILL! Yes, I have a 980ti and use it to game 3x 1080p and 4k. I think it's crazy to consider $650 gpu to play @ 1080p.

upgrade from what exactly ? what is your current card ?

if you have a slow card then it is a wise choice to get GTX 980 ti .. for the future .

if you already have a good card for full HD then you dont need to upgrade yet.

I would consider that the Right Thing To Do. Those things are pesky.

To the OP: Yes it is somewhat, The 6GB of VRAM should be a dead giveaway on that front. A 970 is a fine card for 1080p and even 1440p, so If you wanted to save, I'd get that.

I have a 4gb r9 270x at the moment. I have 144hz monitor so want the higher frame rates in ultra. I will not be going above 1080p so is there a cheaper card that will provide the same fps?
