Gtx 980Ti vs gtx 980 kingpin

Solution
Go with the 980ti over the 980 Kingpin. More memory and more memory bandwidth, more gpu cores, the only thing the Kingpin can do is get you higher MHZ but with less cores so in the end you will get better performance from the 980ti at stock and still be able to overclock it and totally kick the 980 Kingpin to the dust..

If you want to OC to the limits go for 980 kingpin. There is no better card for OCing. If you don't care so much about OC (or just minor OC ) go for the 980 Ti. The 980 Ti is a BEAST and in most cases beats the 980 kingpin even on OC. I would get the Ti.

The GTX 980 ti is better. The card that is the next step up is almost always going to be better than a factory overclocked version of the card that's a step down from it. The GTX 980 will never catch the GTX 980 ti mostly because of how many cuda cores the GTX 980 ti has. The 980 ti has 2816 cuda cores while the GTX 980 only has 2048. That's 768 more cores. By comparison the GTX 980 has only 384 more cores compared to the GTX 970. That jump from the 980 to the 980 ti is twice as big as the jump from the 970 to the 980. Don't let the names fool you. You wouldn't really expect that 2 cards with almost the same names to be all that different but the difference is huge.

They both got backplates, 980ti has more vram, higher bandwidth (better busses) better memory ... it's just a general better card.
You can still overclock the 980ti nicely if your sensible. But a 980 kingpin OC will most likely never beat a 980ti 😛
