First time building a PC. I bought a Titan X graphic card, and I'm stuck not knowing how to connect the cables. I know Titan X requires 8 pin + 6 pin connector for power, but the thing is I don't know if I should use a Y cable (8pins from psu to Y cable 6+8) or two separate cables 6 pins from psu to 6 pins graphic card and 8 pins from psu to 8 pins graphic card.

Solution
Never use a splitter (I assume that's what you mean by 'Y' cable). Your PSU should have exactly the cables you need, since 6 and 8 pin connectors are common.

Basically, there are no 8 pin connectors, instead it's actually a 6+2 pin connector. Generally, your PSU will have at least two cables labelled "PCIe" with 6+2 pins, actually 6 pins, plus 2 more that are able to be peeled back. You plug in these extra two pins for the 8 pin connection, and leave them dangling to the side for the 6 pin connection.
