Here's the deal.

I have the following PC:
i5 2320
2X4GB DDR3 1333Mhz
H61 chipset
450W PSU
22" 1080p display

I want to invest in some GPU.
Main contenders are

  • GTX 750ti - Used - around 75$
    GTX 1050 - New - 150$

As you can see i can i can find 750ti half the price of 1050

The question is:

Will i benefit from buying 1050 and gain twice the performance than 750ti?

So for example If i have 30fps on BF1 with 750ti
1050 should provide 60fps on BF1 - Double the price/Double the performance

I really cant justify the price of GTX 1050 when i can buy used GTX750ti and i'll lose some minor advantage... im fine with 5-7fps slower

The next question is:

How much diference between GTX 1050 vs GTX 750ti?

Disclaimer:

-Dont advise a better GPU nor 1050ti nor RX470

-No cash for other better investment...

-I can find some better deals with used GPU-s but all those are Power hungry and im not planing to invest in new Power supply.

Solution
Can't find many direct comparisons but, in a round-about way.

A 1050 is approx 15% faster (relatively) to a 950
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/MSI/GTX_1050_Gaming_X/27.html

And a 950 is approx 40% faster (relatively) to a 750TI.
https://www.techpowerup.com/reviews/EVGA/GTX_950_SSC/30.html

So, 1050 > 750TI by ~50% relative performance.

Is that going to net you double the FPS like you're hoping? No, not a chance.

Where are you located OP? I know you're not looking for 1050TI recommendations, but a GTX1050 should be in the $100-$110 range, not $150.

A $150 pricepoint is GTX1050TI money?

Balkans, Europe.
There are some spikes in retail prices. I dont know why, for example:

1050 Gigabyte Windforce OC received 10$ increase - Current price 153$
1050 Gigabyte G1 Gaming - Current price 177$
1050 ASUS PH-GTX1050-2G - was 132$, now 144$

I would even buy 1050ti if it comes to fair pricing but when im seeing those prices and compare them with rest of the world and i check my monthly income of 250$ then searching for an old GPU and justifying it comes into question :)

As it is now think im gonna postpone my purchase and wait for some so called Black Friday / Christmas Holiday Deals :\

Where would you purchase from OP?

The closest country with (somewhat) reasonable pricing would be Greece.....
https://www.skroutz.gr/s/10553461/Zotac-GeFoce-GTX1050-Ti-4GB-Mini-ZT-P10510A-10L.html

150EUR / $177
Not ideal, but considering you're looking at 1050's at the same pricepoint, the 1050TI might be a little easier to justify in a performance per $ sense..... unless shipping is a nightmare.

Unfortunately Black Friday isn't utilized much on "new" GPUs. Some older stock clear out, but not likely to see substantial discounts on a 1050/TI.
If you're lucky, maybe 10EUR.

Greece might be an option. Im in Macedonia so its close but thats a big IF i or someone's going to Thessaloniki....
I'll wait a little bit to see if there'll be new stock of GPUs. Im seeing low quantities everywhere. They must resupply soon.

I would go with the 750 Ti and just lower settings or resolution. The main problem I have with that price difference is you would still be at 2gb vram. So while it would be faster, in some ways you'd have the same limitations as with the 750 Ti. If it was paying double for the 1050 Ti, that would be a different story.
