GTX1080 drivers not compitble with windows 10 version

Hey guys I just got my Gtx 1080 FE today and installed it. However when installing the drivers I get and error stating that these Nvidia drivers are not compatible with my version of windows.

I'm running a Windows 10 64 bit version and trying to install the driver version 368.39. These drivers were previously installed when I was using my previous Gtx 970 Sli.

I've tried uninstalling the drivers then reinstalling. I've tried downloading them from the GeForce Experience app as well as directly from the website. I've even tried the 32bit drivers just to see if anything would happen still no.

Any ideas? Thanks!

did you try drivers from the brand card you bought instead of nvidia supplied ones? what about what is on the cd that comes with the 1080? those may be a better option for now until drivers catch up.

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah initially I used the disk that came with the card (Zotac) but really its just holds the download for GeForce Experience and not the actual drivers..

I went on the Nvidia forums to check and apparently the drivers for the GTX 1080 are only compatible with Windows 10 versions 1151, Which I was never prompted to update to. Installing the update now and will update back on the post once its finished.

interesting, that should be the newest public build. makes sense, but is odd you don't have it since they are supposed to automatic and that build has been out for a long time now.

please do post back even if it works. might be the answer someone else needs down the road

Just wanted to get back and say that it was the fact that my Windows 10 was not up to version 1151. I was never prompted to update before. (Probably why I had drivers issues with my 970s after downloading the latest driver.) Hope this does help someone down the line!

I have the same issue with my windows 10 x64, to get the 1080 driver work, i'll need update to the 1511 build? This is an definitive solution?

seems it was. new tech and new drivers would need new build of win 10.

let it update and you should be fine. no reason to be blocking the updates anyway, so much of the features and performance are tied to the newer builds and are not patches like they used to be. you really hurt yourself by blocking them.

From my understanding, yes. If you're getting driver compatibility issues same as I had then you need the 1511 build. As soon as I updated the card worked perfectly.
