Some days ago i bought a gtx1080 and installed it, worked perfectly for some days, but then it happened, the fans went crazy and the display of the monitor was a black screen, yet i could hear what i was playing. At that time i thought it was because of my processor an i5-3450, i changed the thermal paste and the CPU fan, and the porblem was solved, it was like that for 2 weeks, then yesterday started again, and i don't know why, the temperatures are ok, both GPU and CPU, and my old graphic card, a GTX 760, uses the same quantity of 500W as the 1080... i'm going to try reinstalling the drivers..... any help please?! it happens during benchmarks, playing, and even doing nothing, one time i went to pee and when i came back the fans of the GPU where crazy already

Is your card a Evga 1080 FTW if so, there is a know problem that it blackscreens, but that was fixed a while ago(Had the same problem myself). The only sulution to this if it is a Evga card is to RMA it.

The thermal issue didn't cuase any problems at all, it just got a bit hot on the VRM cuz of missing thermal pads. The blackscreen error is another faulty they had, but it was fixed like 3 months ago, so he might have gotten a old card from the store.

Sorry i forgot to say it, its a Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 gaming

the 1080 doesn't surprass the 50C and the CPU it goes to 70C at demanding games like the newest total war games or the witcher 3

Just FYI, I have the EVGA 1080 SC and this is happening to me too. I don't know if you solved your issue, but I'm awaiting the RMA replacement. I did all the diagnostics...you can search for them they're all over the net.
Clean boot, updated BIOS, reinstalled drivers, checked cables, checked MB voltages, RAM, etc...etc... Mine would crash at temps as low as 30C. Video gone, fans maxing out. I had a 980TI in my system for 8 months prior without so much as a hiccup.
