Question GTX1650 for XPS 8940 Tower?

Now that GPU prices have somewhat come down, I am looking to finally get a GPU for my Dell XPS Tower (10th gen Intel i3 - 10100 @ 3.60 GHz / 4-core, 6M cache / 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD) and looking specifically at the GTX 1650.

Unfortunately, I am stuck with a 360W PSU (proprietary, non-upgradable) from Dell with no PCIe power connector. I understand this card is rated for 75W of power consumption, but not sure if any that are over-clocked would be too much for the PSU to handle?

I honestly would spend a bit more on a 1660 or 1660 super but not sure if my tower could handle that? BestBuy has a PNY1650 for $210 right now and just curious if that's the highest I can go with my setup.

Mostly playing games like Warzone, Rocket League, maybe/possibly Microsoft Flight Simulator if it can handle it.

Thoughts?

I had the same gpu not so long ago in my old system with a low ryzen 3 cpu that started with the GT1030 and later upgraded to the GTX1650 Phoenix and it ran really well delivering 60fps average, that's why I recommend you go for a 2x8 16gb memory modules dual channel, you psu will run ok as long as you don't overclock your system. As for running the games you've mentioned I'm a sim flyer and FS2020 will NOT run on your system, sorry, but it will run with older versions such as FSX in medium settings, hope this helps.

Thanks for the heads up. I figured it probably wouldn't handle FS, but hopefully for other games such as Warzone or RL would be fine. I do plan on upgrading the RAM to 16GB along with the GTX1650 if able to be powered solely by the motherboard.

For reference, this is what I'm looking at:

It doesn't appear to be boosted or overclocked.

This is totally usable, but plan to buy a adaptor. You can also go for a 1660 or 1660 Super.

Then your only option are GPUs that don’t need extra power through PSU or you will have to use a adaptor for it. Certainly with that low power CPU it is possible to use a GPU that eats up to ~200W of power.

Understood. I believe this one only takes 75 - 80Ws and hopefully could handle it, but hoping those of you who are experts or way more familiar with GPU's could confirm my assumptions.

As far as I know Dell PSUs (if nothing else), are quality. Assuming this, you can go for a GPU like 1660 or 1660 Super, or something like a 3050/3060 tops. You will just have to use a adaptor for it.

360W psu will be short, trust me because I come from a very similar system and a 500W psu will be the right choice.

The GTX1650 requires minimum of a 300W and the 1660S 450W, his psu is 360W only 60W left if he goes for the 1650 to power the rest of the system, I had a 400W in my old sytem and did not run well enough with the 1650, I had to upgraded to a 500W wich did the trick.
This isn’t about your system though, this is a dell system and again, afaik they have quality PSUs, and the combination of 1650 and the low power CPU he uses is nowhere near 360W, it’s about 180W tops. That’s also why I said he can use more.

Consoles also use PSUs that are rated near the maximum consumption of the system, it’s nothing special if the PSU isn’t trash.

Unfortunately I cannot upgrade the PSU. I'm stuck with 360W. As much as I would like the 1660 or higher, I'm restricted to the limitations of the PSU.

I've heard good things about Asus and Gigabyte. For a couple bucks more I may go with one of those. The fans seem bigger as well.

You don’t have much to lose. Get a 8 pin adaptor to SATA or molex first. Then buy a GPU that needs a 8 Pin adaptor, that’s the maximum you can go with that PSU. And if it’s too much you return the card.

So I get an adaptor to for this card, even though it gets power from the motherboard? I don't know/understand why I would need an adaptor to plug into the same PSU?

No, this will still be powered from the PSU. The PSU may not have a AUX power for the gpu but it has other power cables that can be used with a adaptor to form a 8 Pin AUX to use a GPU that was otherwise unsuitable.

Looks like bad advice from ol' boy who got banned. lol.

In addition to Solitaire, any valuable input would greatly help. I'm going to hold off on purchasing the 1650 until there is a sale (holiday, clearance, etc.). There may not be one soon but want to make sure I get an actual "plug and play" card that will boot up immediately after installation.

Thanks.
