GTX295?

OK, looking at a system upgrade but don't know about video cards.

I have a GTX295 but don't know where it sits among the latest crop of cards as no one compares old v new...

Can someone give me an idea what current card the 295 would be equivalent to?

It is equivalent to the GTX 560 ti or the GTX 650 ti which is coming out in a few days. From AMD's side it is equivalent to the HD 6950.

Yes, complete annihilation. The 7970 offers more than double the performance of the GTX 295.

Although, honestly it should play today's games on very high settings. I would wait until the next generation of cards comes out to purchase.

The GTX 295 is said to be on-par with the GTX 570 according to Tom's and the GTX 650 Ti won't even come close to it.

GTX 295 is a dual gpu card so it is still fairly strong.

Synthetics are useless for such a comparison.

It's still a powerful card, my friend owns one and runs things very well. You should most definitely wait till after the 600 series to upgrade.

What next gen cards can be had for realistic money? $1000+ for a GTX690 is simply crazy...

Surprisingly, $1000 for a 690 is not a horrible deal. The GTX 690 really is that fast. However, two GTX 670s can be had these days for $350 to $450 each and GTX 670 SLI performs almost identically to the GTX 690. Sure, you can get three of the cheapest 670s for GTX 670 Three-Way SLI a little more expensive than the inferior-performing GTX 690, but they'd need a total of six expansion slots (which means that in a 7 or 8 slot system, one or two of them will be choked for air fi you use stock coolers) whereas the 690 only needs two or three.

However, unless you play in triple 1080p or a similarly intensive or more intensive display configuration, a single 670 or Radeon 7950 would be plenty. The 7950 is usually considered the top value card, especially for overclocking and currently has prices ranging from $270 to about $330 for models worth buying.

i think the gtx295 is supposed to be on par with the gtx 670 with the downside that is only has direct X 10 and not direct X 11 but saying as only crysis 3 actualy uses direct x 11 theres not much difference

you can easily get a 295 for about £100 whereas the 670 costs about £300 - £400

Crysis 3 is definately not the only card to use direct x 11

Also, the 295 will never match the 670, and the gap will only widen with drivers. A 670 is probably the best value nvidia card (debatedly the 660ti) and if you sli them you're sorted
