GTX460 on CM elite 460W PSU? Help is welcome.

Hi there. I would like to ask if this PSU can support a GTX460. Here are the PSU specs (the important ones anyway): two 12V rails at 18A. Adds up to a total of 432W max power output.
Here are my specs:
AMD Athlon x2 64 6000+ @ 3.10Ghz
4GB DDR2 RAM @ 667Mhz
1TB Hitachi 7200RPM 32MB HDD
for now an 8600GT 512MB DDR2.
I already know that it can support a GTS450, but I want to know if I should hold back a week or two and spare up for a GTX460.
So what do you guys think?

you have basically a 400W PSU...NOT recommended!

My advice. Save a few bucks more and get yourself a better PS. The GTX460 is a great card.

It will work but your power supply will get hot and likely not last to long if you need to run it that way for a short time that is fine but plan on replacing power supply at some point.

I have Corsiar 400 watts n Asus GTX460 run fine pc specfic
Corei3 2100, 4GB DDR3, WD500GB

Agreed, Ilove the 460's, they OC great. Tat 8600Gt draws 43W and a GTX 460, 160 W maxed.
JUst make sure you get an 80 Plus certified or better. Cheap power supplies are a real sore spot with me. Too much other expensive stuff in the system to try to save $10 or $20.
Though I currently have a 460 running clocked and SB 2500K clocked with no problems using an Antec EA500 green which is actually rated at 444W output. Odd, they call it green because they don't send a power cord with it.

estimate W + 150W = total what you need.

Well this is a brand new PSU because the last one was really sh*t. A total of 10A on the 12V rails. Got this one REALLY cheap for like 30 euros. Well cheap compared to the "quality" 450-550W units which cost like 90 euros. Anyway I'm going to go with the GTS450 not the GTX460 since my processor is too weak for it anyway. Also, this unit has a maximum power output of 432W. 12Vx36A = 432W on the 12V rails

According to the label on the PSU, it will only supply a maximum 324 watts on the 12V rails TOTAL:

That's only 27 amps available on the 12Vrails!

There is a reason it was only 30 euros! It won't supply it's advertised wattage!

If you read the fine print on the label, it will only supply 400 watts!(377.9 on the 3.3, 5, & +12V rails) and 9.6 on the -12Vrail and 12.5on the +5VSB rail), not 460 watts

Total wattage of the 12V rails is 36A not 27. the maximum output is 432W total (not the 12V rails I failed there) but 432W is good enough for a GTS450 which according to this link: http://forum-en.msi.com/faq/article/power-requirements-for-graphics-cards only needs a total of 24A, my PSU has 36. It's a decent PSU for the money considering the *quality* 500W were around 3X it's price. I am not a bank and for 30 euros this was the BEST possible PSU I could get from the cheapest shop here.

The PSA*P* is simply the 220 volt version of the PSA*R*
They have the SAME wattage and current ratings. I know that the label says that each 12V rail can supply 18 amps. That DOESN'T mean that it will supply a total of 36 amps on the 12 volt rails. the label says that it can only supply 324 watts TOTAL over BOTH 12 volt rails. 324 watts/ 12 volts = 27 amps NOT 36. It is NOT the total wattage of a PSU that is important, but how many amps are available on the 12V rails, since the 12 volt rails supply power to most(if not all) of the components in a modern PC. I am not here to debate what you can or can't afford. I am simply stating that the CM ELITE 460 doesn't deliver what it claims and is therefor a bad choice for PSU if you require a 460W PSU.

According to the NVIDIA website:

they recommend a MINIMUM 400 Watt PSU for use with the GTS450.

Since the CM ELITE 460 is just barely a 400 watt PSU, You may be ok to use it with your build. Be aware that you would be running at the MAX for that PSU and you would therefore have little to NO headroom for overclocking or upgrading your machine.

You pays your money and you takes your chances.

Thanks for the wishes. I am aware it does not deliver the stated power but for the money it cost it is a good PSU in my opinion.
