So recently I got my hands on a pretty sweet 240Hz monitor. Problem is I can't seem to make it go any higher than 144Hz. My computer currently has an i7-3930k CPU, and a GTX 670 GPU.

Anyone know if the GTX670 can run at 240Hz,or am I going to have to splash out on a new GPU?

Solution
The 670 is equipped with DisplayPort 1.2

DP 1.2 supports:
240Hz @ 1080p
165Hz @ 1440p
75Hz @ 4K

Which monitor do you have specifically?

1. That's a 650W, not 600W PSU....and Corsairs CS lineup is junk. I wouldn't run a 1080 or 1080TI from it.

2. It sounds like the OP already has the monitor and GPU.
No way. It can only handle cs go. If you want to get a 240hz monitor you need a gtx 1080ti as even the gtx 1070 can't handle properly the 144hz monitor. There is no point of getting 240hz monitor as 144hz is REALLY REALLY GOOOOOOOOD. So yes , the monitor will work but you will not get any performance in games not any better. For a new monitor you would need a new power supply and new card which is like 700 usd. If you want 144hz gaming you need gtx 1080 or gtx 1080ti as well as you can not get anything from gaming out of your weak these days gtx 670 for modern gaming. Let's be real it's a cost of like at least 1500 or even 2000 usd with the monitor. In my opinion upgrade the card and don't get the new monitor.

You need 600w psu. Get these if you want 144hz gaming AT LEAST!

Also the gtx 670 is not compatible with windows to get 240 hz out of it. The only way is to use this particular program. : https://www.monitortests.com/cru-1.3.zip

Corsairs cs are not junk. They are cheap gold power supplys that does the job. My bad it is 650w. Doesn't metter that much tho. :)

Ok, junk was a little harsh. They're "ok" PSUs, but far from the best.
Efficiency shouldn't be much of a consideration really - the difference between Bronze & Platinum efficiency in most users power bills are negligible. Even moreso between Bronze-Gold.

IF the OP was in need of a new PSU, the Rosewill Capstone G650 would be a much better quality option.
Also happens to be Gold efficiency if you want to put weight behind that.

I can't find much on that monitor, other than the above review. Doesn't note which connection is required for 240HZ, but it may required HDMI 2.0 input from your GPU, which supports 240Hz @ 1080p. Can't confirm that 100% though.

With your older GPU, you do not have HDMI2.0 (should be max 1.4), so you're limited to DisplayPort as the only interface that can support the refresh rate. Interestingly, that monitor has inputs for VGA, DVI, HDMI and DP - so clearly it's intended uses are fro a broad spectrum of refresh rates.

Yes, it certainly should be. The issue is the dated GPU makes very little sense in a 240Hz display..... it's odd the DisplayPort isn't working for you thougjh.

I can't confirm that's what it's looking for, but if DP isn't achieving it..... then the only alternative is HDMI 2.0. And your GPU doesn't support it. I don't see any reason DP1.2 can't do it though.

As was mentioned above though, a GPU that can do ~240FPS to come close to matching your 240Hz are going to be limited to 1080's, 1080TI's or maybe even SLI 1070's. But any deal you got on the monitor is going to be made redundant by the time you fork out for those pricey cards.

Tried that and didn't seem to work, good idea though
