Hey guys I built my first pc last year, and I was able to get gigabyte gtx 780 windforce card. Ive been running on my tv screen this whole year. Im wondering if I buy three monitors, will my 780 be up to the task of running all three. Also if it is was wires and configuration would I need to do to set it up?

Solution
Most everything I read said that youd need an 850w PSU to power two 780s in SLI.

Nvidia recommends 1x 780 uses 250w with min PSU at 600w. Add another 250w for another card puts you at 850w which means you need a new PSU.

GTX 970 is only 145w with min PSU at 500w. Add another 145w for another card puts you at 645w. Your PSU would be fine for that setup.

I game with a GTX 780 on 3 monitors. I run BF4 @ med settings with no AA to get 60 FPS @ 5760x1080. I'm taking my 780 back soon to get a couple 970s though.

Also works good with Civ 5, Insurgency, and most other games but you wont play on max/ultra graphics settings. If your monitors are lower resolution than 1920x1080 you can go higher.

So do you guys think I should get another.780 to run in sli? Would it be worth it to go with that configuration? I dont really do super hardcore gaming, like what I spend most of my time playing is rift (its like wow.) I play a couple of other titles as well. What monitors do you guys think I should get.

Yea you could do that. I read Rift isn't the most optimized so it would probably help. New 780s are around $300-350 now. Or just get your monitors and try it with a single 780 and see how you like it. If you want the best graphics settings at 60+ FPS SLI is your best option. Just depends on how much you want to spend. Also, which CPU and PSU do you have?

Another option is to sell your 780 and get 2 970s. 970s are better/newer/faster/cheaper and have a lower TDP. You can sell your 780, I hate to say it, but for around $250-300 so you would have to pay a little more than just buying a new 780 but you will have awesome new tech. Either way you cant go wrong so if youre not into the extra work of selling your 780 just buy another one. Also make sure your PSU can handle the extra power requirements.

EDIT: I just read Rift doesnt even have SLI support.. SLI would be useless in Rift.. =(

My cpu is a i3770k at the moment it isn't oc'd, I tried to oc but it was running just a bit to high for my liking. My psu is corsair 760i. I think I might have to go buy the monitors first and see how that goes, before I go buy 2 new gpus, since I did just buy that 780, it hasnt even been a year.

Yea your PSU should handle it but I would be careful. Get your monitors first and if the GPU doesnt perform on 3 screens to your liking you might want to just sell the 780 and get a GTX 980. You said Rift was what you play the most of and Rift does not support SLI so the second 780 wouldnt help with that game.

Ah I see.

So I guess my best bet would be first to get my three monitors, check how things go with that.

Then from there either add another 780 which then I would need to buy a psu for it.

Or buy two new 970s and I'll be able to keep my current psu.

What about buying a single 980? Would that be able to power my three monitors?
