GTX960 power requirements

Solution

I'm sure, I can't say anything for power surges (thunder strikes, electricity spikes in your household and such). For that either buy a USP or a quality PSU that has safety for that cases.

^^ this, and it also depends what cpu and motherboard you're using. If you have an i3 then it will work as your pc won't take more than 300watts

GTX 960 take 120 W on full load, i3 4th gen will take around 54 W max load, include HDD, case fans will be less than 300 watt in power consumption while gaming so 550w will work even if it's bad PSU. However I do recommend that you upgrade your PSU in the future.

If you have AMD cpu+motherboard then you will probably have to upgrade it right away

i5 4440 84 W + GTX960 125W = 209W + 50w (this will be less than that but ok consider all fans, usb, hdd and ssd) = 259Watt on max load, also your pc will never be on max load except you run Prime95 or other test burners and there's not reason to do so. Yes you can buy GTX 960 with that PSU even if it's a bad quality one because it can handle 259 watts for sure

It would fry it since I doubt that PSU has any surge safety or such but like I said, it can handle 960 with no issues

Agreed but this is 550W (probably 450w rated output) on 259watt 100% load not 335W on 75%, hence he will be using about 220watts on 75% load meaning 100watts less than in the video provided. If he bought R9 380 tho then we could compare this situation to the video

Funny thing is that Corsair is marketing in the video while their low watt PSU's sucks (CX series)

can you explain more? What PSU you had, what cpu/gpu you had, fans etc ?

happend exactly as the video says...

Exploded FX 6300 GTX 960 H60 corsair HDD SSD and thing went just like that
