GTX980 in SLI

Hi just got my self 2x GTX980 SLI and are wondering if the rest of my computer setup will bottleneck my new cards, my spec is as following:

ASUS MAXIMUS IV EXTREME-Z PCIe2 (not able to get PCIe3 with a bios upgrade)
CPU quad 4.0Ghz (clocked)

Is there any way you could send the cards back? 2 GTX 970s would be more value for money. But to answer your question, the CPU will be fine.

What is your CPU? telling us the amount of cores and GHz means very little... I'm assuming its either an i5 3570 or i7 3770.. if that is the case you should have no issues.

That motherboard is a z68 board 1155 socket not 2011.

My mistake, I got confused with the Rampage IV.

I cant remember the CPU name, the build is 2 years old^^ but i can boost it up to 4.6 if i remember correctly
But the question i'm most worried about is if the motherboard can handle 2 gtx980 in 2x PCIe2 16X?

Assuming it is a Sandy Bridge K chip, they will both run in x8 mode with no issues, just make sure your PSU is at least 750w and good quality.

I now that the mainbord can run both in 16X so then it will be fine Or am i wrong?

is it smart to upgrade it all to 2011v3?

You have nothing to worry about... PCIe2 to PCIe3 is pretty much 0-2% performance gain... Not worth the upgrade.
