GTX980 No display when in motherboard.

First time building my PC and it's infruating, connected everything as I was supposed to, when I run it my monitor does not pick up a signal and stays black.
I've tried using HDMI cables as well as VGA cables but I recieve no signal, I'm sure there is nothing wrong with the RAM/PSU/Motherboard/Processor as I get taken straight to the BIOS if I take out the video card. I have no idea what to do from here.
Motherboard:GIGABYTE Z97X-UD5H
Ram:HyperX FURY Series 16GB (2x 8GB) DDR3
PSU:EVGA Super NOVA 850W
Processor: Intel Core i7 4790K
SSD:Crucial 256GB SSD
GPU: MSI nvidia GTX 980

Try testing the second PCie slot too. Make sure that the video cable is correctly connected to the graphics card.

Thank you for your response, I actually tried inserting and running it in all slots, that still did not help.

Are both PCIe cables connected to the graphics card? Do the card's fans spin when starting the board?

Initially they do, the fan on the right stops at about 12 seconds and the left one 7 second after.And yes both cables are connected to the card

It might be a defe3ctive card, then or a faulty power supply. Try testing the card in different PC, if possible, or at a local PC shop, to make sure that it does work.
