GTX980 will it work? for 3 monitor simulator pc

i am trying to build a really nice 1080 triple monitor simulator pc, so ive revised this builds few times and for the 1700 dollar price ranch including monitors and this is what ive come up with
i-5-6500 skylake cpu
gigabyte h170-gaming 3 mobo
16gb g.skill v series ddr4 ram
gigabyte GTX 980 4gb xtreme gaming gpu
3x asus 24" monitors
evga supernova 650 gold psu

ive been told that this gpu wont be able run 3 1080p monitor, i was skeptical about this comment so im seeking out a few other opinions and this will only be my second complete pc build and my first triple monitor build so i would greatly appreciate the advise thanks

It depends on the settings but A 390/X would be a better choice if you cant go above the 980 cause of the 8GB

Although I prefer Nvidia drivers I agree the 8gb 390/390X is probably a better choice for that resolution
