Ill try keep this short I have most of the parts for my pc however my mobo and cpu is crazy old, x58 gulftown, I only game, nothing else, my budget is 700 but could stretch to 800, what is the best cpu cooler, cpu, ram and motherboard for gaining the maximum amount of fps, some say 4790k, others 5820k and some 6700k im having a crazy hard time choosing, any help will be much appreciated thanks, oh and I will overclock so would pref a all in one liquid cooler,

current rig
980ti
i7 970 @3.8(oc, cant go higher my cpu cooler sucks)
16gig 1600mhz ddr3
win 7 and samsung evo 500 gig ssd
seasonic 860w plat psu

Anything above a 4690k is overkill for gaming. I would say because the Z170 is coming out in 2 weeks wait and pick up a 6600k which will hold up to any game at any resolution.

Then you will want 16GB (if @ 4k video) ram DDR4 @ 1866MHz or higher

The cooler is up in the air. Get one that is on sale. You do not need to overclock for gaming, but most people do for fun. Hyper 212 evo if on budget for air, noctua nh d15 if not. For water, any 240 or 280mm radiator AIO water cooler will do well. The corsair, NZXT, fractal design, and cooler master make good ones in that range. Other do too.

i plan on going sli 980ti so would the 6600k be fine? i play at 1440p, also the z170 is already out here in the uk, unless theres different ones coming out you mean?

I would recommend going with the newest architecture available. The 6700K and 6600K look like awesome CPUs on paper. But lack of any real 'production version' benchmarks leave me slightly hesitant to fully (blindly) recommend them.

If I were you, I would wait a few weeks, keep up on reviews, and if nothing weird/bad comes out of the new 14nm process, grab the newest i7 (or i5 if money is tight).

Concerning CPU coolers, I really like my Corsair h100i AIO. It has plenty of headroom to keep my i5 3570k @ 4.4Ghz nice and cool with minimal fan RPM/noise. I know Corsair has released newer and larger AIO coolers without some of the flashy lights and such (LEDs have a habit of giving out in the h100 line) so don't expect the LEDs to last (mine started having issues after about 6 months). Currently 0 of my 3 LEDs work on my CPU waterblock. Sometimes red decides to flicker on for a few minutes, then goes back out for weeks.

If I had to do it over again, I would go H110i GTX. Granted its nearly $150 on Corsair's website.

Good luck and happy upgrading!

after looking around and seeing benchmarks between skylake, haswell e and devils canyon I think im just going to go with the 4790k I want a upgrade due to going sli and my old i7 970 isnt up to the job but the difference in cpus in literally 2-6 fps and I just cant bring my self to spend an extra 300.00 for that tiny amount of fps, especially when I already have ddr3 which I can use, also I plan on going to cannonlake when its out(2017 i hear) and im sure duel 980tis and a 4790k will be able to get me there without having any problems running games from now til then, would like to hear some opinions on this but ddr4 and x99 is too high cost/performance imo and skylake vs devils canyon theres hardly no difference, also I dont care for the new features on the new z170 boards
