I recently posted that my old computer (Ol' Betsy) was dying; today she smells badly of ozone and is running really hot.

So it's time to consider a new system. I think I want a cheap system built around an AMD 720 BE with a motherboard that will be easy for a duffer to assemble. This will be a general purpose computer, but junior would like to play some games on it when he returns from college in a few months.

Wants
CPU-AMD 720 BE
Motherboard-???
GPU-probably nothing more than a 4830
Memory-4GB
HD-500-750GB (though see below)
Case-???
Power Supply-???
DVD burner-??? though I have an IDE one

Already have
22" LCD monitor
Vista and XP
IDE DVD burner
HD-WD 500GB ; 2 x IDE 120GB

Hoping to keep this at < $600. All help greatly appreciated.

So for HDD's and DVD Drives...you can use one of them if you want on that mobo, otherwise you need to pay for a converter from IDE to SATA, which can cost almost as much as a DVD Drive...
