Guy claims GTX 980 consumes 500watts?

I seen this guy that was calling some guy an idiot because he used a 750watt psu with a single 980. The guy tried to set him up with a 1200watt psu. I was stunned. I own one and I have no issue.
We and Nvidia all know the specs;
Thermal and Power Specs:
98 CMaximum GPU Tempurature (in C)
165 WGraphics Card Power (W)
500 WMinimum System Power Requirement (W)
2x 6-pinsSupplementary Power Connectors
What kind of guy doesn't understand what graphics card power means?

They also factor in having a less than stellar power supply so you can probably drop it 50 watts in most cases if you have a quality unit.

He must be a salesman. I started talking to him and he told me to go to that extreme power calculator and he claimed that my setup consumed 750watts at 90%. But when I do it, I only consume 500watts? Seems to me, he is a salesman or does not know what watts are.

He work at a big box store like Best Buy? If so that explains it.

Heh beat me too it. Still being on Steam doesn't really give you any computer credibility. The good thing about this forum is that when people post complete crap someone who knows better will come along and correct it.

Best Buy is not really involved in selling computer parts. They only sell a few selections of RAM, fans, and hard drives in stores. Everything else is online only (and a rip off).

Best Buy is not really involved in selling computer parts. They only sell a few selections of RAM, fans, and hard drives in stores. Everything else is online only (and a rip off).

They sell a small variety of Power supplies too. Not large ones but small cheap brands.
Still the guy is an idiot. And definitely best buy's online prices are a rip.
