H100 worth it?

Hi guys,

So I'm going with the following rig:

Corsair Carbide 500R
i5 3570K 3.4GHz
P8Z77-V Pro
MSI GeForce GTX 670 OC Twin Frozr
Corsair AX750
OCZ SSD Vertex 4 128GB, SATA-3, 2.5 Zoll
Corsair Vengeance 8GB
benq xl2420t
Windows 7 Home (64-Bit)

I won't be overclocking my CPU but I'd like to get a heatsink that isn't chunky and keeps temps relatively low. Is the H100 worth it for my needs or should I look at something quieter and cheaper?

Thank you for your reply. My issue with the Noctua is its sheer size. Although very quiet, it's huge and I really feel like it ruins the aesthetics. Also, it's not available where I live and shipment from newegg or overclockers is just too much.

 
If you are not overclocking the CPU just get a good midrange cooler like the Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo. It's cheap an will be quiet. It will also give you the opportunity to overclock to a moderate level ( 4.2 - 4.4Ghz would be average with it ) in the future if you choose to do so.

The H100 is a great cooler for someone with no real budget considerations who wants great cooling and does not have the time or skills ( or extra money ) required for a real watercooling setup. It cools better than the high end air coolers by a small bit but it's also loud.

A custom watercooling setup would be MUCH better

A decent air heatsink would also be good enough for overclocks

In my opinion the H100 is priced higher than the performance that it offers
 
Its worth it if you dont want the hassle of maintenance etc that a custom watercooling loop. I use one because I didnt want to go through all that and just wanted something that would do the job. I have a near identical setup, and good airflow in my case in just push configuration and run my i5 @ 4.2ghz, underload it never tops 55 Celsius.
 
Thanks for all your help. Checking out the reviews, the noise really does get quite loud and unfortunately, a little unbearable.

The Coolermaster Hyper 212 Evo isn't available in my local stores (don't want to use online websites like newegg or overclockers as the delivery costs would be too high). Any recommendations on alternative coolers?

Its a good little cooler if you don't plan to OC or only want a mild OC. h100 is just overkill for you as you don't want to OC and even if you do OC custom water will do better for similar price or big air will do just as well for less cost. If you really really want a closed loop liquid cooler as you don't intend to OC go with a H80 or H60 but really they are not worth the cost compared to air.
 
IMO those all in one water cooling kits aren't worth it. They are no better than high-end air cooling like a Noctua D14. If you want to go water cooling do a custom loop if not just go with top of the line air cooling.

Love the h100. The sp fans ar much quiter than the stock fans and in performance mode(high fans) i never hit temps above 55c even under 100% load stress testing.
And the H100 an be found for under $100 now which is MUCH lest than what a custom water cooling system would run AND the h100 out preforms almost ALL air coolers.
