Hi guys,

so i bought the Corsair h100i water cooler with my build but it doesn't seem to be working.

when i run prime 95 to do a stress test, after around 20 minutes or so, my cpu temp goes up to around 82C. Idles around 35C. my H100i temp idles around 30C and when my CPU is on load 100% it goes up to about 35C when my CPU goes up to 82C.

The odd thing is that no hot air is coming out the fans, the cooler pipes are vibrating (so it's definitely working).

I've updated the firmware to the latest as well and still no change.

I then took it off the CPU to see if it was attached correctly and it was. the thermal paste was all melted and distributed evenly across the CPU.

Does this mean i will need to reapply another thermal paste?

I don't know if it's just inaccurate temperature reading but i really do not want to risk anything melting.

I'm not even overclocking my CPU.

My gear:
CPU: i7-4770k
cooler: H100i
motherboard: Asus Maximus VI hero
Case: CoolerMaster Storm Stryker
Power supply: Corsair AX860i

Note: i have googled a hell of a lot and mostly people said it started working all of a sudden. one guy said it wasn't correctly connected so i screwed the screws in as hard as i could and saw a 3C drop in temp, nothing major.

Any help would be great, thanks!

It may be the liquid in the cooler. That is my only guess. I have a H60 2nd gen with 2 SP120s and im getting great temps on my OC'd 4670k (at 4.6ghz). I suggest you contact corsair about this. Are you running the latest firmware. Here is how you do that:
Please follow thes steps to update the firmware on your Hydro Series cooler:

1. Install the latest version of the Corsair Link software and use the "update firmware" button on the device tab.

2. Once Corsair Link exits a new dialog box comes up and you have to select "Corsair H80i/H100i" and then click back into the dialog box.

3. Use the choose file dialog box to select the unzipped firmware file.

4. Once you hit start it will flash the firmware and go through POST test on the...

Have you tried to plug in the pump and the 2 fans? If you have, try to increase the speed of the fans (as much as you can). This can be done in either the BIOS or if your board came with some software it should be there (e.g. asrock a-tuning)

Hi H4X3R,

Yeah I'm using corsair link and i've thrown everything to 100%, it's not the fan issue.

No hot air at all is coming out of the fans even when stress testing and the cpu gets to 80c.

both water pumps vibrate but do not get hot like others with the h100i do.

Any time that water block comes off the CPU, you should be cleaning both the block and CPU and reapplying thermal paste, just to be sure. If it was a fresh coat, that might be a different story, but since it had time to cure, you should absolutely clean it off and reapply the thermal compound.

yeah i was planning on buying AS5 tomorrow and applying it, heard it's good although i don't know why alot of people who use the pre-applied corsair compound can still get very decent temps whereas i cannot. I should be able to get decent temperatures at least.

Is there any other reason why it's heating up so hard and i haven't even overclocked the cpu?

4. Once you hit start it will flash the firmware and go through POST test on the H100i/H80i unit. The fans will spin up to full speed and then go back to the previous profile that was selected before the flash.

5. You can close the firmware flash dialog box and the program will open up again.

6. The service has to be restarted, so detection of the devices and inputs will take 15 to 30 seconds depending on how many you have. It will all come back up in the main program window as well as the devices window.

If that doesn't work, contact them here: http://corsair.force.com/
