the specs on the motherboard list DDR4 at 2133 MHz. Would any brand of DDR4 2400 be compatible? Can the speed somehow get raised, or is 2133 the limit?

Solution
All DDR4 RAM above 2133 will run fine at 2133. With that in mind, you're safe choosing whatever is the cheapest that you like, even if it exceeds 2133. So your DDR4-2400 RAM is compatible although it won't run at 2400.

Now, the only way I know of to change that involves messing with the B-CLK, which if it is unlocked and you can change it, will affect the whole system: the CPU, RAM, bus speeds, support chips, anything that relies on that signal for clocking it. Otherwise, you are locked in to the 2133 speed.

EDIT: In this case, the H110, B150, and H170 chipsets normally do not support any kind of overclocking, like I mentioned above. The only chipset that does out of the box is the Z170 chipset, which isn't all that...

The others might unlock the B-CLK for you to play with, but that depends on the specific motherboard, manufacturer, and to a degree age (as some boards had a short period where B-CLK was unlocked, but was later locked back up.)

Thanks. I found that this board has a list of compatible manufacturers' memories. Are there some specs of memory that can predict whether it will work on the MOBO, or should I stick with the list? Found a 14-14-14-31 and thought it may be a bit faster than 15-15-15-35. Also found some less expensive ones not on the list, but seemingly with the same specs.

For the most part now days, RAM is RAM is RAM. If you stick with what is on the list, you'll have zero issues with getting it to work. If you go off the list, there is a slight chance that it may not... but now days that chance is smaller than what it used to be. I'd just go for the cheapest RAM you like, on or off the list.
