Hi Guys/Gals,

Was hoping someone might be able to shed some light on a strange question.

I currently have a H110M-D D3 Motherboard: Clicky Linky

Sporting a relatively underpowered i5-6400 CPU.

I was looking to upgrade my CPU to something a little faster. According to the Asus website the maximum CPU the board will support is a i7-6700k: Clicky Linky

Im on the current Bios Ver 2001.

Its a little disappointing because I would have liked to have invested in a kaby lake CPU rather than stick with the current gen.

While l was looking over the FAQ for my board there was a post listed here: Clicky Linky

It says the following boards can be updated to support the latest 7th gen coffee lake CPU's by installing another bios. But I'll be damned if I can find any more information on it.

It says:

"If your BIOS Version of ASUS 100 series MB is under 1800, and you want to upgrade BIOS to support the latest 7th Intel CPU, please do remember to update BIOS two times to 30xx version manually"

Does anyone know how to do this? if it's even possible? And what does two times the 30xx version mean? Either there is a mistake on the site or I'm missing something obvious. I don't really want to go downloading random BIOS files and brick the board, but at the same time i like the idea of upgrading to a 7th gen CPU.

If anyone has any knowledge of this issue, or has sucesfully updated a similar board and can share the info it would be greatfully appreciated 😀

There is not an available BIOS version available for that mobo model to use 7th gen CPUs:

Given the relative age of the mobo, I wouldn't expect one either.

To move to a 7th gen CPU, you will need to change to a more current mobo with applicable chipset to support.

Yeah i assumed that would be the case, i was just confused as my motherboard was listed on this article Linky Linky

It says my model could support 7th gen. Wierd

I just wanted a little more power. I mean the i5-6400 barley scrapes 6700 cpu passmark, as my board doesnt allow over clocking im stuck with it. I know it's not a K version but BLCK could be utilized to squeeze maby 10% more out of it if i was lucky.

Im only running a GTX 980 but my CPU maxes out well before my GPU, im pretty sure its bottlnecking it somewhere along the line.

Yeah its worth a email just to find out, could be somthing as simple as that :)

Ok so i managed to find the original box and get the serial number, registered it online via my asus account, then raised a support ticket for it. Thought id give it one last try before shelling out for a new board.

2 Hours Later......http://tempuri.org/tempuri.html

Still no response to my ticket but I'm pretty sure they are updating the CPU support list. Secret CPU support indeed. Will let you know when i hear back from asus.

7th gen is KABYLake, not CoffeeLake....

7th gen is supported with a post-Jan/Feb 2017 BIOS...

(Naturally, you'd need to flash the BIOS to a later version with the older CPU first, as it will be inop ifswapping the cpu and then attempting it....)

No CoffeeLake/8th gen cpus are or ever will be supported....

Hi Mdd,

Yeah sorry i ment Kaby Lake when i was referring to 7th gen, i should really change the title of the thread lol.

Yeah the last bios update for this bored that also updated the CPU Compatibility list was the 0702 update. However like you said there was another update in Jan 17 that added "Additional CPU support", however the compatibility list was never updated to say which CPU's were supported.

After a bit of digging i can see that Asus did indeed add 7th gen support, however as the list was not updated it would be impossible to tell which CPU's in particular would work.

As some of the other guys said, Kaby Lake and Sky lake only officially support DDR3L (low voltage 1.35v) and DDR4, which i understand is also 1.35v. The H110M-D D3 will only take good old fashion standard DDR3.

With the voltages not adding up, and no official CPU support list, i was reluctant to buy a 7th gen in case it didn't work, its a lot of money to loose :)

I managed to register my motherboard with Asus, that allowed me to open up a specific support ticket to get some feedback.

Within 2 hours of submitting the ticket a bios version 2602 popped up on the drivers page. I can only assume they are updating the motherboard and support lists :)

I am still waiting for a response to my support ticket, i guess they are sorting it and will get back to me soon.

As soon as i receive a reply with any details I'll post them here. Would be nice to go from a i5-6400 up to a i7-7700k. The i7-6700k is ok but there isnt much difference in the price where i live, so it would make more sens to go with the most recent CPU. Worth holding off a few days at least to find out :)
